Land of good customs and welcoming people, its origin is lost in time. In it was found a brass ax with a side ring that appears to be from the Bronze Age.
Its settlement is due to the Order of Christ of which Granja was. D. Manuel I granted it a charter in 1512. D. João III's charter indicated to its inhabitants, including many Castilians who helped to populate the place, their respective obligations in relation to the Crown and the Order.
Of the built heritage, the Church of Nossa Senhora da Ajuda, dating from the 16th century, stands out. XVI with its main altar and gilded sides, Crucified Christ from the 16th century. XIV (Gothic style), Manueline portals, fountain with several spouts."
